Mr. Raling Ngawang Drukdra

Mr. Raling Ngawang Drukdra from the Department of Forests and Park Services is considered one of Bhutan’s foremost ethnobotanists, a specialist on the cultural values and uses of plants. He pioneered the establishment of the national herbarium at Serbithang. He can identify almost 90% of the plant species in Bhutan. He is regarded by many as a philanthropist of nature and provides services related to plants and the environment to anyone who seeks his help.

Past Awards

The Jigme Singye Wangchuck Outstanding Environmental Stewardship Award (JSW-OESA) is conferred once every two years. It honours individuals, groups and institutions from all backgrounds for a lifetime of contribution towards ensuring the security and sustainability of Bhutan's pristine environment. It particularly merits people who have gone beyond the normal call-of-duty in their service towards environmental protection.
